Party Planning

  • General Party Planning Schedule
  • If you're having your party at a special venue, make reservations well in advance.
  • When ordering invitations with your party supplies, place your order about six weeks before the party to allow time for processing, shipping, preparing the invitations, and mailing them in time to arrive two weeks before the party.
  • If you don't have time to order supplies and mail invitations, get solid color partyware, but mix it up: red, pink, and white for added interest. Email invitations (request an RSVP and perhaps a link to an online map to your house) and follow-up with a phone call a couple days later.

Party Decorations

  • For Valentine's Day parties get red and pink poster board and cut out large hearts. You could write messages on them like candy hearts.
  • Red, pink and white balloons are pretty in bunches. If helium-filled, tie with ribbons and anchor each bunch with a box of chocolates.

Party Invitations

  • Use our the two-fold vertical invitation template for making your own invitations. Get some red or pink card stock, fold it and trace a half heart so the center is along the fold. Cut it out and write the party info inside. Then decorate the front with sparkly things like sequins and glitter.

Party Food Ideas

  • Valentine punch can be made from Hawaiian punch or pink lemonade, or use 7-Up, Sprite or Ginger Ale and color with marischino cherry juice. Place a cherry or two in each glass; or freeze them into ice cubes (after removing stems.)
  • Cake: If you have or can get a heart cake pan, great! Or you can use a square and a round pan, cut the round cake in half and attach to adjacent sides of the square to create a heart shape. Trim if necessary, then frost and decorate.
  • Cupcakes are fun, too, and many find them simpler than a big cake. Frost some white, some pink, and use all sorts of cute red, pink and silver cake/cupcake decorations.

Party Activities

  • Play musical chairs with songs like "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" or your favorite love songs. If it's a little kids' party, some Barney music or Care Bears might work well for you.
  • Spin-the-bottle with a twist: Instead of kissing, write a bunch of silly actions on slips of paper, fold and put in a container, and each spinner/person draws and performs the action on whoever the bottle pointed to.
