High School Musical Party Planning
- Begin your preparations by ordering party supplies four to six weeks in advance, to allow time for order processing and delivery, and for preparation and delivery of invitations if you'll be ordering and mailing them.
- You can make your party like an episode of High School Musical, an audition, an High School Musical performance. Prepare your party and invitations according to the type of theme you choose.
- See our general party planning tips for a full party planning timetable.
Invitations:
- If you're ordering invitations from one of the online party merchants linked above, allow four to six weeks for order processing and shipping, plus invitation preparation and mailing. You want the invitations to arrive a couple of weeks before the party.
- Or head on over to the official High School Musical Website, where you can print or email invitations!
Decorations:
- Make a stage, which can be a raised platform, a sheet of plywood on the floor, or a solid colored rug to represent a stage. A raised platform can be as simple as several shipping pallets, often available free, with a sheet of plywood nailed on top. Use a solid red sheet for the stage backdrop.
- Roll out the red carpet for your guests. The party vendors linked at the top of the page sell vinyl runners for this purpose, or you may be able to find some locally.
Food:
- Typical movie theater food is appropriate for a High School Musical party. This includes hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, lemonade, sodas, and boxed candy.
- Make an High School Musical cake. Start with a rectangular cake. Use white frosting. Write High School Musical on it, make gold stars outlined with icing and filled in with sparkly gold sprinkles or colored sugar.
Activities:
- The guests will have a blast participating in High School Musical Karaoke!
- Have everyone come dressed as Gabriella or Troy. Vote for the best look-alike.
- Hoops Stars vs. Mathematicians - Divide the guests up into two teams. Each takes turns with a challenge. The Hoops team gets a prewritten challenge, carried out using an indoor hoop and nerf ball. The Math team gets a prewritten math problem to solve (could be multiple choice) or a math trivia question to answer. After everyone has had two or three turns, the team with the most points wins.
- Visit Disney's official High School Musical Website for more ideas and fun activities.
Tips:
- Play High School Musical CDs as party background music, and/or use them as prizes and gifts.
