Fairy Party Ideas

Here are some ideas for a magical fairy party. Start by ordering your favorite fairy partyware. There are several styles to choose from!

Fairy Party Decorations

  • Pink, purple, lavender, bright green, yellow - all pretty colors for fairy decorations. Use these colors in table covers, crepe paper streamers, balloons, cake decorations, plus solid color plates, cups napkins and utensils if not ordering a fairy party theme. Use one or two colors or several!
  • Get a silk flower garland and attach it to the edges of your food table.
  • Layer your table coverings for a pretty effect: white or light pink beneath, and a smaller covering in a darker pink over that. See our page of fairy table covering ideas.
  • Get some metallic curling ribbon and use it to make streamers to hang from the ceiling, individually or in bunches, perhaps with a hanging balloon bouquet.
  • Hang fairy wings and/or fairy posters on the walls.
  • A lovely garden or a bit of woods are ideal settings for a fairy party. Let nature do the decorating! Include fairies by adding fairy statues, dolls or figurines, fairy houses, sparkly things, cute little birdhouses and birdbaths, and some tinkling wind chimes! The Fairy Garden Hideaway shown here is a lovely idea for indoors our out, and will make a lovely gift for the birthday girl! Click on the image for more info or to purchase. Fairy Invitations

  • Start with pink or white paper or card stock. See our invitation layout instructions.
  • Use glitter glue, stars, fine tulle netting, stickers, colored markers, construction paper, crepe paper, small flat-backed acrylic jewels...whatever pretty and sparkly things you want to add to make your invitations special. See or Face of a Princess invitations for some ideas that can be applied to fairy invitations - just add wings!
  • Make fairy garden invitations using moss, twigs, thin bits of bark, sandpaper for path, small silk flowers or flower petals, blue crinkled plastic wrap for water, stickers or magazine cutouts of fairies, birds, butterflies, etc., (or, if you're artistic, draw your own.) Just keep in mind, if the invitations will be mailed, they must be sturdy enough to survive the journey! Search a local craft store for bits of inspiration and items you can use. Look in your yard and garden, too! If you plan ahead, you can dry some flower petals to use - press them in a book in a folded facial tissue for a couple of weeks. Although the color may fade, they may still be suitable for invitations. Experiment with different petals and soft leaves.
  • Another way to go about it is to create one invitation, take a digital photograph in good soft lighting to minimize shadows, and print it on the front of all your invitations. This allows you time to create one beautiful invitation, avoids mailing delicate invitations, and allows you to use fresh and colorful flower petals. (See our templates page for general invitation layout info.)

Fairy Party Food

  • A lovely green salad with edible flowers or flower petals on top: rose, violet, lavender, jasmine, rosemary, etc. (See Edible Flowers for a full list.) [Note: make sure any flowers you use have not been sprayed with fertilizers or pesticides!]
  • Violets and lavender make lovely cake decorations! Frost your cake with white, pink, or a shade of purple, add sparkly sanding sugar, and place the flowers. [Note: make sure any flowers you use have not been sprayed with fertilizers or pesticides!]
  • Fairies love sweets, so cookies, cakes, and delicate little sandwiches are in order.
  • Star, butterfly, and flower-shaped cookie cutters make a nice touch for cookies and/or sandwiches!
  • Sprinkle edible "pixie dust" (sanding sugar) on sandwiches, cakes and cookies for extra magic!
  • To balance out all the sweets, serve our naturally sweet party punch recipe.
  • Use the food suggestions above to serve at a fairy tea party, along with jasmine tea or punch.

Fairy Party Activities

  • Purchase flower vines at a department store, and cut pieces to make flower wreaths for each guest to make a wreath for her head. Attach some pretty ribbons to the back, tying at least one over a section of overlapped vine to hold the wreath together.
  • Get solid color (or at least rather plain) fairy wings for each of the guests, and let them decorate their pair with glitter glue, acrylic craft gems, etc. Provide silk flowers to attach to the band between the wings. These may need to be sewn on, with adult help or supervision. Be careful if you use a glue gun - it may melt the wing material!
  • Fairy Crafts by Heidi Boyd is full of fairy items you can make, many of which would make great party activities. The book is well organized and illustrated. Craft projects are well described, using items you can purchase at a local craft store. (Some, such as the fairy costume skirt, include the use of a sewing machine, and several involve the use a hot glue gun.) [more fairy craft books]
